Watson & Hillhouse have specialised in the provision of pile driving equipment since 1972, building a worldwide reputation for service and technical expertise. Rubious undertook the challenge of creating a website matching their prestigious standing within their industry.
The project had some challenging aspects regarding content, mainly due to the complex nature of the subject, and in particular the machine specifications. The new site needed to convey a lot of information about the company itself, and also the machines and services on offer; this included USPs, spec tables, fleet variations and buy/hire options with regional offices. All this information needed to be collated, and structured in a way as not to be too crowded, allowing the user easy navigation around the site and find the information they were looking for.

Buy or hire personnel
Each machine can be set up for a hire and/or buy enquiry. A specific team member can also be assigned to each enquiry. This helps Watson and Hillhouse administer enquires more effectively.
Confidence inspiring USPs
Letting your potential customers know your unique selling points is very important. Watson and Hillhouse use USP shields to add prominence to these benefits.
Watson and Hillhouse have multiple offices; buy or sale enquires are directed to either a north or south office depending on the user's location.
Watson and Hillhouse can embed videos of machines, this allows the user to see the machine in use and helps them identify if the machine is right for their requirements.
Fleet structure was an important part of the site's navigation. Watson and Hillhouse needed a website that could allow them to set up and manage multiple fleets, and give the user the option to browse both within a machine type.
Another level of complexity for a machine information page is to convey the configuration options. There are shown with an individual tab.
Specification tables and comparisons
It was important to allow users to easily view each machine's specification data across multiple models. A scrollable table was deemed the best solution. Calls to actions are also located at the bottom of each model column.
Watson and Hillhouse are exclusive, global distributors for a range of manufactures. It was important to include an area dedicated to these. Careful consideration was needed to create an effective administration method of specifying a machine for distributor, fleet and machine type category within the Content Management System.

We were looking for a brand new, modern website that was easy to navigate and conveyed our core principles to ‘provide state of the art, high quality piling equipment backed by a first class service’. A must-have was a content management system so that we could edit the site ourselves and transfer easily, should we ever have that requirement. It was also important to us to employ a local firm and after various communications, two companies were shortlisted. Initially we liked Rubious’ website and their portfolio of previous projects which gave us confidence that they were able to fulfil our objectives. After contacting them, Greg and Shaun’s professional approach impressed and conveyed their attitude to their work in general.
Rubious quickly understood our requirements and the nuances associated with our business. They made some great suggestions and have created a website that we are very proud of and we have had amazing feedback from both our suppliers and customers. Best of all, since launch, our UK traffic has increased by just under 50% on the same time last year and enquiries via the website have also improved.
Throughout the process the team at Rubious have provided a first rate customer service which continues post launch. Any queries are dealt with promptly and patiently – even though sometimes I’m sure the questions asked have obvious answers!
We look forward to a continued working relationship with Rubious and developing the website even further in the future. We’ve already got ideas!
